Badminton Finals

14th March 2017

On Monday 27th February, Tuesday 28th February and Wednesday 1st March Humphrey Perkins had 3 teams who competed in the County Schools Badminton tournament at Babington College, Leicester.

Having won the district tournament in the KS3 girls, KS3 boys and KS4 Girls and narrowly missing out in the KS4 boys to Martin High School, Humphrey Perkins proudly represented South Charnwood Schools on three consecutive nights of intense competition.

First to play were our KS3 Girls quartet of Jessica Allen, Gabby Barton, Poppy Chapman and Abby Wright. They had a challenging encounter in the first pool game against Loughborough High School losing 3 games to 2. In the other pool games they won, coming second in the pool and going forward to the semi-final against Newbridge who they narrowly lost to in the final last year. In a tense match the overall outcome came down to the final doubles game, in which we unfortunately lost 21-19 thus meaning Newbridge advanced to the final 3 games to 2. Overall our girls came 3rd which was a valiant effort.

The KS3 boys’ team consisting of Cameron Smith, Matthew Fullerton, Jaimin Metcalf and Dominic Walker, came 5th overall, following narrow defeats in the pool matches.

The KS4 girls’ team, who included Hannah Barton, Lauren Ellis, Emma Lacey and Jasmine Grant fought valiantly against some strong opposition to finish 6th overall out of 10 teams.

Congratulations to all the pupils who participated in the event, which showcased some of the highest standards of performance at school level I have seen in any sport. I am very proud of our pupils’ efforts and attitude in each of the tournaments.
