Dynamic DNA

8th September 2016

Year 9 pupils attended the 'Dynamic DNA' event at Leicester University on Wednesday 7 September. They spent the day with real geneticists learning about the amazing uses of DNA.

Our pupils took part in workshops where they cracked the genetic code, made bracelets from genes, built DNA models , made glowing leaves and learned about genetic fingerprinting. Later on they also extracted the DNA from a banana and explored the world of fruit fly mutations.

Both staff and pupils had a fun day out and pupils got to see the real world uses of genetics, and have a go at carrying out new laboratory techniques.
