Hockey Champions

8th July 2016

Year 7/8 Boys Hockey and Year 10 Boys Hockey team receive the trophies!

The pupils in the winning teams were:

Year 10 - George Godwin, Harry Allen, Sam Williams, Hugo Jessop, Josh Thory-Rao.

Year 7/8 - James Godwin, Ethan King, Nathan Geary, Jaimin Metcalf, Will Richradson, Cameron Smith.

Mr Goss gives his match report below of the Year 10 boys final games -

'As favourites leading into the tournament the Humphries boys did not disappoint. A truly dominant display in the first game by a skilful team. Harry ‘goals’ Allen scoring freely and George ‘the puppet master’ Godwin pulling all the strings in midfield. They went on to win 6-2.

The second game was a little tougher and complacency had set in. Beauchamp college looked a tough opposition and started brightly. The free scoring Harry Allen couldn’t find the net and tension begun to rise. As the game went on Humphries began to compose themselves and eventually came out 2-1 winners with Hugo Jessop getting on the score sheet.

After the relief of winning the second game Humphries only needed a draw to clinch gold. It was a cagey start for both teams. Then the unthinkable happened. Humphrey Perkins found themselves 3-0 down. It looked bleak Sam Williams took an injury and had to be replaced. What more could go wrong but then they managed to pull a goal back 3-1. Humphries were back in the game. They pressed forward but a lapse in defence and 4-1. It looked beyond hope, but George Godwin rallied his team and with the support of the crowd managed the comeback of the year and eventually drew the match 4-4 with virtually the last hit of the ball. Humphries were deserved winners of the gold medals showing skill and heart throughout the tournament.'

Congratulations go to all our boys!
