Epic Marathon Man

12th April 2016

Going the extra mile with Ben Smith marathon runner!

Humphrey Perkins School were excited to host Ben Smith, epic marathon runner, for the start of his 225th marathon as part of the 401 marathon challenge.

Ben is midway through a challenge of a lifetime which sees him run 401 marathons in 401 consecutive days. Ben is aiming to raise £250,000 for two fantastic charities, “Stonewall” and “Kidscape”. Both of these charities work tirelessly to combat bullying in schools and society. Humphrey Perkins School operates a strict anti-bullying policy so were delighted to welcome Ben to the school as part of his worthy campaign.

Ben was joined by staff and pupils from Humphrey Perkins School, and spoke about the inspiration for this challenge, and the dedication required to continue with the daily marathons.

On the sound of the bell for lesson 2, Ben started his run, supported by pupils and staff,  striding across the school playing fields, and then leaving school to be joined by friends and local supporters from the Barrow Runners group. Some of the pupils were tempted to follow Ben for the full marathon but decided to stay in school so not to miss double maths later in the afternoon!
